IS A SPA

RIGHT FOR YOU

Reasons homeowners add a spa

October through March in North Texas, your pool sits unused. A heated spa turns five dormant months into year-round backyard time. That’s the most common reason homeowners call us. Here are the rest.

  • You want to use your outdoor space during cooler months when the pool is closed
  • Your pool area feels incomplete without a relaxation zone
  • Joint or muscle recovery after workouts, sports, or long days on your feet
  • You want a gathering spot that works for two people or twelve
  • Your current hot tub is aging, leaking, or too expensive to maintain
  • You plan to build a pool and want the spa integrated from day one
  • Your backyard layout works better with a standalone spa than a full pool
  • You want to increase your property’s resale value with a permanent feature
  •

If any of these sound familiar, call (903) 321-3172. We can assess the scope in one site visit.

WHY CHOOSE US

Why DSH for custom spas

Gunite Spa Construction

We build permanent gunite spas engineered for Collin County’s expansive clay soil with insulated plumbing lines and auto-freeze protection. No prefab shells that shift and crack after two winters.

Integrated Pool-Spa Design

DSH builds custom pools and spas, so your spa ties into the pool’s plumbing, heating, and automation as one seamless system with independent temperature controls.

Standalone Spa Builds

No pool required. We design and build freestanding spas for patios, courtyards, and smaller backyards where a full pool doesn’t fit.

Every Option in One Consultation

Spillover, standalone, swim spa, or retrofit to an existing pool. One site visit covers every configuration so you can compare side by side.

OUR PROCESS

From design to first soak

Step 1: Design Consultation

We visit your property, discuss placement, size, features, and how the spa fits with any existing pool, patio, or planned construction.

Step 2: Engineering and Permits

Your spa gets engineered for the specific soil and drainage conditions on your lot. We pull all permits from your city and Collin County and handle the inspection schedule.

Step 3: Construction

Excavation, steel, plumbing, gunite application, tile, coping, and equipment installation. One crew manages every phase.

Step 4: Fill, Heat, Soak

We fill the spa, balance chemistry, set the heating schedule, walk you through the controls, and hand over a written warranty.

SPA OPTIONS

Spa and hot tub options we build

DSH designs and constructs several types of spas depending on your property, budget, and intended use.

  • Pool-Spa Combos (Spillover Design) — The spa sits elevated above the pool with a spillover edge. Hot water cascades into the pool, and both systems share plumbing and heating. Independent temperature controls let you heat the spa to 102 degrees without heating the entire pool. Your automation system manages both with separate schedules. This is the most popular configuration for new pool builds.

  • Raised Spas with Seating Walls — A raised spa with a stone or tile surround that doubles as extra seating for your outdoor area. Works with or without a connected pool.

  • In-Ground Standalone Spas — A freestanding gunite spa built flush with your patio or deck. No pool required. Ideal for smaller lots, courtyards, or homeowners who want a spa without the footprint of a pool. Includes freeze protection engineering for North Texas winters: insulated plumbing runs, equipment enclosures, and auto-freeze guard programming that activates the pump when ambient temperature drops below 36 degrees.

  • Swim Spa Installations — A longer, narrower unit that combines a current-generating swim lane with a heated spa section. Fits properties that want both exercise and relaxation in one feature.

  • Hot Tub Pad and Installation — For prefabricated hot tubs, DSH builds the reinforced concrete pad, electrical hookup, drainage, and any surrounding deck or privacy screening. We coordinate with the hot tub manufacturer for delivery and final placement.

  • Spa Additions to Existing Pools — Already have a pool? We can add a spa by cutting into the existing shell, extending plumbing, and tying the spa into your current equipment. Pairs well with a full pool remodel.

FAQ

Common Questions About Spas and Hot Tubs

How much does a custom spa cost in McKinney and North Texas? +

[CONFIRM WITH CLIENT] for gunite spas. Costs depend on size, finish materials, features, and whether the spa connects to an existing pool. Prefab hot tub pad-and-install projects start at [CONFIRM WITH CLIENT]. Every project gets a free written estimate.

How long does it take to build a custom spa? +

A standalone gunite spa typically takes 4 to 6 weeks from excavation to first soak. A pool-spa combo built as part of a new pool project adds roughly 1 to 2 weeks to the overall pool timeline. Prefab hot tub installations with pad construction take 1 to 2 weeks.

What's the difference between a gunite spa and a prefab hot tub? +

A gunite spa is a permanent, custom-shaped structure built into the ground with the same materials as an in-ground pool. A prefab hot tub is a factory-made acrylic or fiberglass shell that sits on a concrete pad. Gunite spas last decades, handle North Texas freeze-thaw cycles better, and can be designed to any shape. Prefab units cost less upfront and can be relocated.

Can you add a spa to my existing pool? +

Yes. We cut into the existing pool shell, extend plumbing and electrical, form and shoot new gunite, and finish with matching tile and coping. This pairs well with a full pool remodel to minimize disruption.

Do I need a permit to build a spa in McKinney or Collin County? +

Yes. In-ground spas and permanent hot tub installations require building permits in McKinney, Prosper, Frisco, and most Collin County municipalities. DSH pulls all permits and meets the inspector on site. Permit costs are included in the quoted price.

How much does it cost to run a spa year-round in North Texas? +

A well-insulated gunite spa with a variable-speed pump and a quality cover typically adds $30 to $75 per month to your electric bill depending on usage and temperature settings. We install energy-efficient equipment as standard. Most McKinney homeowners run their spa 8 to 10 months of the year.

Can I heat my spa independently from my pool? +

Yes. Pool-spa combos are plumbed with independent valves and controls so you can heat the spa to 102 degrees without heating the entire pool. Automation systems like Pentair IntelliCenter and Jandy iAquaLink let you set schedules and adjust temperatures from your phone.

Does DSH offer financing for spa construction? +

[CONFIRM WITH CLIENT] on financing availability and terms. Contact us at (903) 321-3172 for current options.

What finish materials are available for custom spas? +

Standard plaster, pebble finishes (PebbleTec, PebbleSheen), glass bead finishes, and full tile. We bring samples to your consultation so you can see how each material looks against your home and outdoor area.

Is a spa a good investment for resale value in Collin County? +

Permanent in-ground spas tied to a pool consistently add to property value in the McKinney, Prosper, and Frisco markets. Standalone spas on well-built pads add value too, though less than integrated designs. The biggest return comes from spas that match the home's overall outdoor design rather than afterthought additions.
